Guerrilla Gardening

Some words from community foot practitioner and local resident Jennifer Hayden on her Guerrilla Gardening activity in Pimlico…

First year  after taking over this little space outside Pimlico Tube, near the C10,360 bus stop. Originally the box was planted up with lavender bushes and box trees.Sadly they didn’t do  well the box trees, died, the lavender as it had not been pruned, became woody and lacked shape.I removed most clearing the space.I found, drink cans, cigarette butts, fruit skins, chewing gum. It seems people use it as the rubbish bin, when there is one next to the bus stop?

I planted it up with Wallflowers, Iris, Tulips … I even have a oak tree seedling coming along.Sadly, a few weeks back I took these photos eagerly waiting for the tulips to bloom. Two days later some one had helped themselves to the pink, cream tulips, I was very upset! I want everyone to enjoy them, to make this little patch colourful for every one who passes by.

I am both deterred. I am eagerly waiting the first bloom on a new iris. Hopefully, I will get to see it bloom.I have already planted up the summer bedding. This week we are due rain, that will be great.I keep eye on it as I pass by removing the rubbish.Last weekend I found socks and a t-shirt among the flowers. So what will I find next?!

Yes I do want you to enjoy the flowers, please choose just one bloom if you really want to take it, but not the whole lot, you are then destroying the beauty of the display for everyone else.
