Small Works Big Ideas

We have started Small Works Big Ideas, our Islington-based social action programme which challenges young people to act on issues that they care about in their community and create solution driven projects. The programme is part of the Ambitious Communities programme commissioned by Islington Council. It launched in 2018 and so far we have worked with young people at Highbury Roundhouse and Islington Bangladeshi Association. The programme is an opportunity for young people to express their intersecting identities, to have fun and to feel supported through advice and mentorship from role models.

During the 6-weeks programme of interactive workshops, led by fully trained and experienced youth workers, young people will be inspired by “local heroes” and learn how new digital technologies can enhance their projects. They will work in their own setting but also visit the Machines Room, our cutting-edge maker-space near Bethnal Green.

Participant experience first-hand what it takes to make positive change happen. As a group, they will work through their idea, take ownership, confront challenges and bring solutions into practice. They will learn transferable skills such as working in a team, leadership, identifying challenges and problem solving, and to communicate clearly and with confidence. The programme enhances what young people learn in PSHE, Citizenship and Design&Technology.

We are keen to expand the programme further into Islington. We are happy to adapt the programme to your organisation’s and your young people’s needs in terms of the timing and structure of the programme.
